M40 Camouflaged Helmet

M40 Camouflaged Helmet
ET64, #71 This helmet is a great example of adapting to changing surroundings with additional colors of camouflage being added later. It started out as a tan camouflaged helmet that was brushed on in a rather thick consistency. There are consistent brush marks all around the helmets exterior surface, with additional painting of the interior flange and visor area. The colors of dark green and red/brown were added later in its combat life. The thick tan coating did not adhere well to the smooth surfaced factory paint and chipped when damaged. The liner band is DRP stamped with no visible date, and the rivets are loose from wear, but untouched and original. The band has the tan paint all around the flange, as does the chin strap rivets. The chin strap is an early aluminum type that is in excellent shape and original to the helmet.
